September
Family Togetherness Week—A week designated by the Seventh-day Adventist church as a time to focus on families. Sermon resources, stories, seminars and helpful program ideas are available in the Family Ministries Planbook published each year by AdventSource.
Grandparents Day—The first Sunday after Labor Day is for grandparents.
- Give all grandparents in the congregation on the Sabbath before this day a flower, preferably presented by a grandchild. Those without grandchildren/grandparents present may be matched with others in the congregation, so that all grandparents are included.
- Ask the children to draw a picture of something that reminds them of their grandmother or grandfather. Reduce and copy for a church bulletin insert, or put on a bulletin board or other conspicuous place in the church for all to see on the following week.
- Provide special recognition to those grandparents who may be raising grandchildren.
- Have a grandparent's party with grandparents the guests of honor. Show an appropriate video or have children tell some favorite thing about their grandparents.
National Singles Week—The third week of September is a time to recognize the contribution of single persons to church and community.
- Since single people seldom are recognized in days devoted to mothers and fathers, this is a time to recognize what singles do in the congregation. Give a rose or other appropriate gift.
- Plan a singles event, perhaps including another nearby congregation.
- Ask the singles in the congregation to plan a special Sabbath School or church service.
- Singles might enjoy planning a special, purposeful trip to accomplish a specific mission.
National Centenarians Day—September 22—Recognize and honor people who have lived to be 100 years of age or older.
- If the congregation has anyone in this age category, plan a special event with flowers, cards or other appropriate memento.
- Some have used this day to have a "past 80" party for all those in the congregation or nearby community who are past the age of 80.
